![]() ![]() ![]() Lies of P does not have a universal release time. ![]() The 72 hour early access for digital deluxe edition pre-orders is available now, with everyone else on PC and Xbox able to play Lies of P at 8 am Pacific on Monday, September 18. That, for me, is what a great game feels like.Neowiz has put together a useful chart showing when Lies of P releases across a number of timezones. I thought about it when I wasn't playing and couldn't wait to get back to playing. 10/10, every other game got put on the back burner while I worked my way through this. It is also surprisingly accessible for this type of game, offering an 'easy mode' with summons and overpowered throwable items - but offering a significant challenge if you want to do things the hard, but more satisfying, way. It's a bit linear, its difficulty is a bit uneven, some of the level design is a bit tedious towards the end, but overall none of this detracts from what is a top-tier game experience. There's a particular fight in this game with a particular sparkly lady that I'd rank somewhere around Genichiro level, which is high praise indeed! If you know what I mean by that then you already know if this is the game for you. At times I found it - gasp! - more enjoyable than FromSoftware combat. ![]() Everything feels weighty but smooth, fluid but impactful. Learning when to parry, when to dodge, and when to run away. I found the combat incredibly satisfying and fun. It's a bit like them but if you play using only what you know from one or the other, you will struggle. The Belle Epoque setting is beautiful to explore, the story is less opaque than Souls but still curious and compelling in its own way, and the combat really is its own (blood starved) beast - the parries are not Sekiro's, and the dodges are not Bloodborne's. However while its rhythms might rhyme with Souls games, it has its own pace and its own feel and its own character. The fast-paced action of Bloodborne coupled with Sekiro's parry system and some very Souls-like big and intimidating bosses which like to stomp you, but eventually become the source of some euphoric triumphs. Genius steals, and many of the best bits of Souls games have been ripped out and reassembled here, alongside some new ideas of its own. Lies of P is part love letter, part master thief. ![]()
